Munich (RWH)  BMW is the latest recipient of the Bavarian Sports Award presented by the region’s Prime Minister. Horst Seehofer praised BMW AG’s commitment to sport as he presented the award at a gala event attended by around 600 guests. The presentation ceremony for the personal award from the Bavarian Prime Minister has been held annually in the BMW Welt since 2011. The award was accepted by Oliver Zipse, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG for production. The Bavarian Sports Award is presented to individuals and initiatives which showcase the positive effects of sport in society in a unique way.

“Sport has always been a core feature of the BMW brand ever since the company was founded 100 years ago. From golf to motorsport, tennis, running, and especially winter sports – BMW has enabled our top-flight Bavarian athletes to share in the company’s passion for pioneering developments,” said Prime Minister Seehofer in his speech. “The individual funding of athletes is just as much a part of BMW’s commitment as the dissemination of technical knowledge aimed at optimising materials and equipment. This is why the company is a deserving recipient of the Bavarian Sports Award 2016.”

BMW is title sponsor of the World Cup series run by the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) and one of the main sponsors of the International Luge Federation (FIL).
