Hawaii (RWH) Skeleton athlete Elisabeth Vathje from Canada and Austrian bobsleigh pilot Benjamin Maier are now a married couple. The 23 years old IBSF athletes celebrated their wedding on the Island of Hawaii (USA).

Elisabeth Vathje started competing in World Cup in December 2014. She finished second at her very first race in Lake Placid (USA) and won the second in Calgary (CAN). In 2015, the Canadian celebrated World Championships Bronze in Winterberg (GER). In BMW IBSF World Cup 2017/2018, Elisabeth Vathje finished third.

Benjamin Maier won the silver medal at the first edition of Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck (AUT) in 2012. In 2016, the son of national team coach Manfred Maier won 4-man bobsleigh silber at the European Championships and the Junior World Championships.

Just before the wedding, the couple competed at the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang (KOR). Elisabeth Vathje finished ninth, Benjamin Maier was eighth in 2-man and seventh in 4-man bobsleigh. ©RWH2018
