Rico Peter comes second in Whistler ahead of Yunjong Won

Whistler (RWH): Francesco Friedrich of Germany has won the first two-man bobsleigh race in the 2016/2017 BMW IBSF World Cup. In the Canadian town of Whistler, the 2013, 2015 and 2016 World Champion and his brakeman Thorsten Margis recorded the best time in both heats, pushing the Swiss pairing of Rico Peter/Thomas Amrhein (0.46 seconds behind) into second place.

Defending World Cup champions Yunjong Won and his brakeman Youngwoo Seo of future Olympic hosts Korea finished in third (0.48 seconds behind).

Their teammates Donghyun Kim/Junglin Jun (KOR) came in sixth to celebrate the best World Cup result of their careers.

US athlete Justin Olsen with brakeman Evan Weinstock completed his second World Cup race as pilot in seventh place. At the 2010 Winter Games in Whistler Sliding Centre, Olsen achieved Olympic gold as a brakeman for Steven Holcomb in the four man bobsleigh.

Following the first of eight races in the 2016/2017 BMW IBSF World Cup, the overall standings are led by Francesco Friedrich (GER, 225 points) followed by Rico Peter (SUI, 210) and Yunjong Won (KOR, 200). @RWH2016-2017
