Alexander Tretiakov second ahead of Christopher Grotheer

Altenberg (RWH): Sungbin Yun of Korea has won the men’s skeleton race at the BMW IBSF World Cup in Altenberg (GER). The athlete therefore celebrated his fourth win from six events this Olympic season. Yun, who won bronze at the 2016 World Championships, pushed Alexander Tretiakov (RUS, 0.39 seconds back) and Christopher Grotheer (0.76 seconds back) of World Cup host Germany back into second and third place respectively.

Finishing ninth in Altenberg, Hiroatsu Takahashi (JPN) celebrated one of his best World Cup results. The experienced Japanese athlete has been competing in the World Cup for the past seven years and has made it into the top ten on four other occasions, most recently when he finished seventh in January 2015, also in Altenberg.

Athletes from a total of six countries made it into the top ten in Altenberg.

In the overall standings for the 2017/2018 BMW IBSF World Cup, Sungbin Yun (KOR, 1,320 points) has extended his lead to 90 points over defending World Cup holder Martins Dukurs (LAT, 1,230). Dukurs, who has won the overall World Cup for the last nine winters, finished fifth in Altenberg. Tomass Dukurs is currently third in the overall World Cup (LAT, 1,104).
