Michael Vogt with silver medal in Altenberg, Francesco Friedrich wins bronze
Altenberg (RWH) Johannes Lochner/Erec Bruckert (GER) are the 2-man bobsleigh European Champions 2023. At the BMW IBSF World Cup in Altenberg (GER), for the athletes from Europe the continental championships additionally, the Olympic silver medalist with his fourth season's victory in a row also secured his first European Championship gold in the small sled.
World Cup rank two and European Championship silver went to Michael Vogt/Sandro Michel (SUI, 0.05 seconds back) in Altenberg. The Swiss, surprisingly in the lead after the first race run, fell just behind in the second run, but celebrated their first European Championship medal.
Third place went to six-time European Champion Francesco Friedrich with push athlete Alexander Schueller (GER, 0,38 seconds back).
Brad Hall/Taylor Lawrence (GBR) finished fourth and narrowly missed the first medal for Great Britain in the 2-man event in 55 years: In 1968, Patrick Evely/Toni Fields and John Blockey/Mike Freeman had last won silver and bronze for the British team.
In the overall ranking for the 2022/2023 BMW IBSF World Cup, the leader Johannes Lochner (GER, 1292 points) increased his lead over Francesco Friedrich (GER, 1236). Brad Hall (GBR, 1206) is third overall.
