Lausanne (RWH) The Executive Committee of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation IBSF has decided on the composition of the various Committees for 2022-2026. During its last meeting held on September 5th, more than 100 applicants brought forward by over 30 Member Federations were considered and assigned.
In order to guarantee the best transfer of knowledge and to support the sustainability and the legacy of the Olympic Winter Games, the IBSF Executive Committee decided to add a non-voting Member from the host of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 as well as from the host for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 to IBSF Committees, wherever possible.
Lausanne (IBSF) Seyi Smith, former bobsleigh push athlete representing Canada, has been appointed to the IOC Athletes' Commission (AC) by the IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach, in consultation with IOC AC Chair Emma Terho, and in accordance with IOC AC regulations, which are aimed at ensuring a balance between genders, regions and sports within the Commission. Smith can serve a term of up to eight years. The appointment was announced during the IOC’s first ever Athlete Town Hall on the 27th of July.

The 35-year old Canadian’s first Olympic experience was at London 2012, where he was part of Canada’s 4x100m relay team. In 2017 Smith switched from summer to winter sport, making his World Cup debut in November 2017. With Chris Spring and Justin Kripps in 4-man bobsleigh, Oluseyi Smith celebrated two podium places in BMW IBSF World Cup 2017/2018 and finished sixth with Kripps’ four-man crew at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics. Smith holds a Bachelor of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Master of Science in Renewable Energy Technologies from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.
Online meeting with IOC and Athlete365 on July 27/28
As an initiative from the IOC Athletes’ Commission, the International Olympic Committee IOC and Athlete 365 invite all Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 Olympics to the first ever Athlete Townhall event to be held online on 27-28 July.
The two-day event will celebrate those who competed at Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 and show athletes and members of Athletes‘ Commissons what support and offers are available to them. There will be a Q&A with the IOC President.
The Athlete Townhall will be live in 11 languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese.
