Beijing (RWH) Headed by the presidents, Ivo Ferriani and Josef Fendt, members of the track commissions of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) and the International Luge Federation FIL travelled to China to evaluate potential locations for the combined artificial ice track for luge, bobsleigh and skeleton. Beijing is set to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2022. In close cooperation with the Chinese hosts various locations have been put on the short list.
FIL and IBSF requested additional information by the end of August, such as geology aspects, weather conditions and detailed layout of the track. After that track commission members of both federations will pay another visit to China.
„Visiting Beijing now together with our FIL colleagues was very important to explain the basic requirements and the expectations of both federations“, said IBSF president Ivo Ferriani. „Our main focus is on the sport and the sustainability of this project. I am pleasantly surprised as to how excellent the Organizing Committee prepared our visit. Our comments were carefully noted and I am sure that these will have been taken into account at our next visit.
Ferriani and Fendt were accompanied by the chairmen of the track commissions, Giacomo Dariz (IBSF) and Markus Aschauer (FIL), as well as track commission members Thomas Schwab (IBSF) and Walter Plaikner (FIL). ©RWH2016
