Lausanne (RWH) 6 April 2017 marks the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) that will take place worldwide. At the initiative of the International Olympic Committee IOC, this day was launched in August 2013 by the United Nations and pays tribute to the power of sport to drive social change, community development and to foster peace and understanding.
This day is commemorated globally each year by international, regional, national sport and development organizations to honour the role that sport plays in society, whether by encouraging healthier lifestyles, making sport more widely accessible or using it as a vehicle for development in areas made vulnerable by conflict, poverty and inequality.
To express support to the positive impacts sports offer to every society, athletes, teams and national federations are invited to take part on this year's Whitecard campaign, promoted by L’Organisation pour la Paix par le Sport and under the patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco: https://www.april6.org/en/white-card.html
To join the campaign, take a piece of white paper (the white card as a sign of commitment to peace efforts worldwide) shoot a picture holding it into a camera and post/tweet/place it on April 6th, 2017 on social media using the following tagline: @peaceandsport #WhiteCard #IDSDP2017. IBSF athletes and National Federations are encouraged to add @IBSFsliding.
