Viktoria Cernanska and Quentin Sanzo win in Monobob

St. Moritz (RWH) The skeleton athletes Elisabeth Schroedl and Lukas Nydegger from Germany as well as Viktoria Cernanska from Slovakia and Quentin Sanzo from Liechtenstein are the first winners of the OMEGA IBSF Youth Series.

17-year-old German skeleton athlete Elisabeth Schroedl won the race at Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz-Celerina by 0.19 seconds ahead of her one year younger team-mate Josefa Schellmoser (GER). Russian Anastasiia Tsyganova (1.14 seconds back) finished third.

In men's skeleton, 17-year-old Lukas Nydegger (GER) won ahead of team-mate Timm Beiwinkel (3.79 seconds back) and 15-year-old Dmitrii Grevtsev (RUS, 3.78 seconds back).

In Women's Monobob, the victory in St. Moritz went to Viktoria Cernanska (17) from Slovakia. 15-year-old Celine Harms from Germany (0.17 seconds back) took second place ahead of Georgeta Popescu (17) from Romania (0.22 seconds back).

With Quentin Sanzo (16) a young athlete from Liechtenstein won the Men's Monobob race. Second place went to Alexander Czudaj (GER, 1.08 seconds back). The 16-year-old is the son of Olympic Champion Harald Czudaj, who had won gold in 4-man Bobsleigh in Lillehammer in 1994. Third place went to local hero Fabina Gisler from Switzerland (1,12 seconds back).

The OMEGA Youth Series serves to prepare the young athletes for the Winter Youth Olympic Games 2020 in Lausanne (SUI). Before each race, the boys and girls train intensively on the respective tracks. The next event of the series will take place on the artificial sliding rink at Königssee (GER) on February 23rd. © RWH2019
