Lausanne (RWH) The International Olympic Committee IOC together with the Associations of the Olympic Summer Sports and Winter Sports Federations ASOIF and AIOWF started its 2020 IF Gender Equality Webinar Series. The series aims at supporting International Federations (IFs) in the work needed to reach gender equality at all levels and in all aspects of the organisation.

The webinars are under the leadership of Marisol Casado, IOC member, president of the International Triathlon Union ITU and Chair of the ASOIF Diversity and Gender Equality Group. One member of this group is also Heike Größwang, Secretary General of the Internationale Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation IBSF.

About 500 participants are already registered for the webinar series with 260 taking part at the first two sessions on 7 September (Entrenching Gender Equality in Electoral Processes and Developing the pipeline of female governance candidates). The participants include IF presidents, executive board members, secretaries general, chief executives, committee members and development managers. The subsequent sessions of the webinar series will be held on 14 September (Leadership – Developing a Pool of Coaches and Technical Officials) and 23 September (Safe Sport and Portrayal).

Over the past five years, the IOC in collaboration with ASOIF and AIOWF has organised an annual forum with the Olympic IFs to encourage and support the organizations to implement initiatives to close the gender gap in female participation in sport on and off the field of play. The 5th IF Gender Equality Forum was scheduled to take place in April 2020 but was ultimately cancelled due to the COVID19 pandemic.
