Beijing (IBSF/RWH) A group of experts of the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) and the International Luge Federation (FIL), led by IBSF President Ivo Ferriani and the FIL Technical Director Christian Eigentler were present during the Pre-homologation test runs recently conducted in the sliding center Yanqing which will be the Olympic sliding site for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
The test runs were conducted by the Chinese National Bobsleigh & Skeleton team as well as international athletes from luge which allowed the testing of the Field of Play.
A closing meeting was held on Saturday, October 31, in the presence of the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee (BOCOG) Vice President Mr. Yang Shu´an, high level BOCOG executive members, the track designer Mr.Uwe Deyle together with the IBSF and FIL experts and athletes on-site.
“We have seen an excellent prepared track and were impressed by the smooth and perfect organized event which were held under strict hygiene measurements due to the COVID-19 pandemic! This was definitely the most impressing Pre-homologation we have seen. We are looking forward to work now on the details for the Test Event to be held in March 2021. I want to thank the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee for the outstanding work they have done so far. Additionally, a huge thank you for the National Chinese athletes and their coaches for conducting the test-runs.”, states IBSF President Ivo Ferriani.
Walter Plaikner, FIL expert, added during the closing session: “I have been at all homologation since the 1980s but this was not just excellent but awesome. The best I have seen!”
The IBSF expert-group consisting of Giacomo Dariz, Chairman of the IBSF Track Committee, supported by Jos Mattli (Bobsleigh Delegate), Michael Grünberger (Skeleton Delegate), Gatis Guts (Assistant Delegates), Maarten Verstraete (IBSF TV Director) and Dr.Christian Schneider (Chair IBSF Medical Committee) saw state-of-the-art prepared ice conditions compared with a perfect organization on all levels. A strict hygiene concept was set forward to protect all participants of the Pre-homologation.
