Wesenberg, Florian, Curtis and Daly win USABS Skeleton races

Lake Placid (RWH) The federation USA Bobsled/Skeleton, USABS, continued their team selection races for the coming Olympic season 2021-2022. In Lake Placid, the athletes competed in all six disciplines featured at the Winter Games Beijing 2022.

Codie Bascue/Carlo Valdes won the 2-man Bobsleigh competition ahead of Frank Del Duca/Adrian Adams and Hunter Church/Josh Williamson. In 4-Man Bobsleigh, the team of pilot Hunter Church took the win followed by Codie Bascue and Goeff Gadbois.

2014 and 2018 Olympic silver medallist Elana Meyers Taylor won both competitions of the female bobsleigh athletes. In 2-woman Bobsleigh, she teamed up with Lake Kwaza to win the second selection race ahead of Brittany Reinbolt/Aja Evans and Nicole Vogt with 2018 Olympic silver medallist Lauren Gibbs. Also in Women’s Monobob, Meyers Taylor won ahead of Reinbolt and Vogt.

Kaillie Humphries, World Champion in 2-woman Bobsleigh and Women’s Monobob, earned a bye with her two titles at the BMW IBSF World Championships 2021 in Altenberg (GER).

In Skeleton, the athletes competed in two races. In Women’s Skeleton, Kendall Wesenberg and Kelly Curtis finished first with 2012 World Champion Katie Uhlaender coming in second in both races. Savannah Graybill and Megan Henry finished third, respectively.

In Men’s Skeleton Austin Florian and John Daly both finished the races with one win and one second place. Andrew Blaser was third in both events.

The Lake Placid races marked the last USABS event on ice this season. If the schedule permits, the team selection race series continues in the fall. The 2021-2022 USABS National Team is expected to be officially named at the start of next season. ©RWH2021
