Olympic Champion Jamanka wins nomination race at Yanqing Sliding Center

Beijing (RWH) After a nomination race of the German women’s bobsleigh athletes at the International Training Period in Yanqing Sliding Center (CHN), the team for the BMW IBSF World Cup in the Olympic winter is fixed.

On the new track for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Mariama Jamanka with push athlete Kira Lipperheide won after four runs ahead of Kim Kalicki with Ann-Christin Strack (+0.31) and Stephanie Schneider (+0.70) with Leonie Fiebig. Junior World Champion Laura Nolte, World Championship bronze medallist in the 2-woman and monobob events, had already been confirmed as a World Cup starter, now national coach René Spies also nominated Olympic Champion Jamanka and World Championships silver medallist Kalicki for the World Cup of the Olympic season. Stephanie Schneider, World Championship runner-up in the monobob, will start the season in the IBSF Europe Cup.

In men’s bobsleigh, Olympic and World Champion Francesco Friedrich, World Championship runner-up Johannes Lochner and Christoph Hafer will compete in the BMW IBSF World Cup. Christoph Hafer had prevailed over Richard Oelsner in both the 2-man and 4-man events at the nomination races in Winterberg and will definitely start the first three World Cups both events, while Richard Oelsner kicks-off the winter in the IBSF Europe Cup. After that, according to national coach René Spies, a new decision will be made.

The first BMW IBSF Bobsleigh & Skeleton World Cup of the new season will start on November 20, 2021 in Innsbruck (AUT). The sporting highlight of the upcoming season will be the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, which will be held in Beijing from February 4-20, 2022. ©RWH2021
