Calgary/Soesterberg (RWH) Skeleton athlete Elisabeth Maier of Canada and Dutch monobob pilot Karlien Sleper have announced their retirement.
Elisabeth Maier, still under her maiden name Vathje then, began competing in international skeleton sportsin 2010. In the BMW IBSF World Cup, the now 28-year-old has been on the podium twelve times, including three times as winner. At the 2015 World Championships in Winterberg and in the overall standings for the 2017/2018 BMW IBSF World Cup, the Canadian finished third, respectively. After the 2018 Winter Olympics, Elisabeth Maier married bobsleigh pilot Benjamin Maier from Austria. The two athletes are parents to a son. Home | 2018 Olympian & New Mom (slidelikeamother.com)
Karlien Sleper started as a bobsleigh push athlete for the Netherlands and competed in a few races for Austria in the 2015/2016 season. As a pilot, the 28-year-old was a monobob specialist and achieved podium finishes several times.
