PyeongChang (RWH) Ivo Ferriani, President of the International Bobsleigh Skeleton Federation (IBSF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PyeongChang County (KOR) to host international competitions at the Alpensia Sliding Center, venue of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Ferriani, who is winter sports representative at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Comittee, also attended the the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly in Seoul.
With the IBSF Intercontinental Cup coming up in December, the Pyeongchang Olympic Sliding Centre will host IBSF competitions including the Asian Championships, IBSF Youth Series, and the Korea Cup. As the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games are a year and three months away, a meeting was held on the matter of pre-inspection plans through various international competitions alongside with the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony.
"This MoU is a milestone to check the direction of sliding sport in Asia“, said IBSF President Ferriani. "I am confident that we will be able to open a new horizon for sliding sport in Pyeongchang."
President Ferriani visited the Olympic Sliding Centre and the Korean national team to encourage them, and had a meeting with Korea Bobsleigh Skeleton Federation (KBSF) President Chanmin Chyun in order to discuss the future international competitions in Korea and the development of the sliding sport community in Asia.
Chanmin Chyun, Korea Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation President and IBSF Vice-President Communication, said, "As President Ferriani is a part of Sustainability and Olympic Legacy Commission at the IOC, we may expect the increased utilisation of the Olympic Sliding Centre in the future as well as its value as the Olympic legacy.”
