Lausanne (IBSF) The fourth edition of the Report into the Governance of Winter Sports conducted by I Trust Sport shows a continued improvement in the governance standards of the members of the Association of International Olympic Winter Federations (AIOWF).
All seven members of AIOWF successfully exceeded the base benchmark governance standard that was set by the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) Governance Task Force who manage the standard.
The standard measures governance across 50 indicators covering five principles or sections: Transparency, Integrity, Democracy, Development and Control Mechanisms with a possible total of 200 points. Scores ranged from over 130 to under 175. The mean score for the seven Winter IFs was 154 compared to 140 in the 3rd edition of the assessment in 2020, an increase of 10% in a period that has been dominated by the challenges of COVID and the Russian attack on Ukraine.
The AIOWF and IBSF President Ivo Ferriani states:“The report we have released indicates the continued importance that the Winter Sports have put on the principles of Good Governance. We recognise that these are vital in building trust with external stakeholders and the public. This is not the end of the journey but represents a strong step forward and shows that the Winter IFs can be trusted and relied on to be good leaders and partners in Sports.”
