Machata wins ahead of Kupczyk and Hefti
Innsbruck (RWH) On four runners the bobsleigh veterans from all over the world are no old iron. The pilots from seven nations proved this once again at the 42nd edition of the European Cup for Seniors.
Manuel Machata/Andreas Bredau (GER) successfully defended their title in the general class. The four-man bobsleigh World Champion from 2011, currently head coach of the Italian bobsled team, relegated Dawid Kupczyk/Jakub Havlin, who competed for Poland at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, to second place. Olympic champion Beat Hefti of Switzerland finished third. The gold medalist of the 2014 Winter Games in Socchi competed with Beat Wullschleger.
In the skeleton race, which was held at the same time, Frank Kleber (GER), third in the 2004 World Championships, won the title. Second and third places went to Pascal Oswald, Swiss champion from 2010 to 2012, and David Mächler, once a participant in the World Championships for the Swiss.
In the list of winners of the European Cup for seniors appear such renowned pilots as Wolfgang Zimmerer (GER), 1972 Olympic champion in the two-man bobsleigh and several times World champion, Werner Delle-Karth (AUT), who spoke the Olympic oath at the opening ceremony of the 1964 Winter Games, and Ekkehard Fasser. The Calgary Olympic champion emerged as the winner of the veteran event no less than five times between 1995 and 1999. ©RWH2023Fotorechte Titelbild: Friedrich Liebhart
