A total of eight events on three continents
Großgmain (RWH The kick-off of the BMW IBSF Bobsleigh & Skeleton World Cup next winter will take place in Yanqing, China, on the Olympic track of the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. The world federation now announced that in Großgmain near Salzburg. Including Yanqing in China (November 17-19, 2023), there are eight BMW IBSF Bobsleigh & Skeleton World Cups on the schedule in a total of three continents and eight countries.
"One of the most important pieces of information we would like to share with you is that the Chinese Member Federation, together with the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau and the Yanqing County Sports Bureau, will host the season opener of the BMW IBSF Bobsleigh & Skeleton World Cup in Yanqing," reads a circular sent to all Member Federations. The hosts, the IBSF added, are offering various forms of support. "For example, covering the costs of the central bobsleigh transport from Europe to Beijing and back for the teams participating in the World Cup in Yanqing," it says. By awarding the season opener to Asia, the IBSF is complying with an agreement reached after the 2022 Winter Games to sustainably operate the facility in China.
The Asian trip will be followed before Christmas by the two events in La Plagne (December 8-10, 2023) in France and Innsbruck (December 15-17, 2023) in Austria. The new year will start in St. Moritz, Switzerland (January 11-13, 2024). Lillehammer (January 26-28, 2024) in Norway, Sigulda in Latvia (February 1-3, 2024) and Altenberg (February 16-18, 2024) in Germany are the next stops.
After the season highlight with the BMW IBSF World Championships (February 19 - March 3, 2024) in Winterberg (GER), the season finale will take place in Lake Placid (March 15 - 17) in the US state of New York.
