Alexander Kasjanov finishes second in Altenberg ahead of Oskars Kibermanis
Altenberg (RWH): Bobsleigh pilot Francesco Friedrich of Germany has won the two-man bobsleigh race at the BMW IBSF World Cup in Altenberg (GER). In their first run of 54.48 seconds, the 2013, 2015 and 2016 World Champion and his brakeman Martin Grothkopp broke the eleven-year-old Altenberg track record to secure their second win of the season.
Alexander Kasjanov of Russia and his brakeman Alexey Pushkarev finished in second (0.64 seconds behind) to secure Kasjanov’s best ever World Cup result in the two-man bobsleigh. Oskars Kibermanis/Matiss Miknis (LAT, 0.70 seconds behind) came in third and celebrated their first podium finish on their BMW IBSF World Cup season début.
Benjamin Maier/Markus Sammer finished fourth, the Austrian duo’s best result to date in the two-man bobsleigh event at the BMW IBSF World Cup.
Following the third of eight races, the current title holder Yunjong Won of Korea, who finished fifth in Altenberg, leads the overall standings in the 2016/2017 BMW IBSF World Cup with 576 points. Alexander Kasjanov (RUS, 546) is in second ahead of Swiss pilot Rico Peter (530), who finished in tenth place in Altenberg. ©RWH2016-2017
