Alexander Kasjanov finishes second in Altenberg ahead of Francesco Friedrich
Altenberg (RWH): Bobsleigh pilot Johannes Lochner of Germany has celebrated his first World Cup victory in the four-man bobsleigh at the BMW IBSF World Cup in Altenberg (GER). It was the Junior World Champion’s third World Cup race in the four-man event. With his team of brakemen Sebastian Mrowka/Joshua Bluhm/Christian Rasp, Johannes Lochner pushed the Russian team of Alexander Kasjanov/Alexei Zaitsev/Aleksei Pushkarev/Maxim Belugin (0.41 seconds behind) into second place in the four-man bobsleigh. Kasjanov was followed by Francesco Friedrich/Candy Bauer/Martin Grothkopp/Thorsten Margis (GER, 0.67 seconds behind), who finished third in Altenberg.
Benjamin Maier, the runner-up in the European Championships, and his team of Stefan Laussegger/Markus Sammer/Danut Moldovan celebrated their best result so far in this season’s BMW IBSF World Cup in fourth place.
Swiss pilot Rico Peter (619 points) defended his lead in the overall standings at the 2016/2017 BMW IBSF World Cup after finishing fifth in Altenberg. Alexander Kasjanov (RUS, 595 points) is in second place overall ahead of Steven Holcomb (554) of the USA, who came ninth in Altenberg. ©RWH2016-2017
