Innsbruck (RWH) The Liechtenstein Olympic Committee and the Liechtenstein Bob Federation in cooperation with the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) hosted an International Monobob Youth School and Para-Bob School at the Olympic Icetrack Innsbruck-Igls from February 26 to March 2, 2017. 22 young athletes between 14 and 19 from ten nations (AUT, ESP, GER, ITA, LIE, NOR, ROU, SUI, SVK, TPE) took part, including three Para-athletes from Austria and Germany.
For five days the rookie athletes learned about the Monobobs, had daily track walks with the coaches and at least three training runs per day each – at first from a lower start position and later from the top. Monobobs and mechanics were provided by the IBSF whereas the Liechtenstein Olympic Committee and the Liechtenstein Bob Federation covered the costs for coaches and track fees.
Head coach of the school was former German bobsleigh pilot Wolfgang Hoppe, 1984 Olympic Champion and four times World Champion in both 2-man and 4-man bobsleigh. Responsible for the para athletes was IBSF Para-Sport Coordinator Kristaps Kotans.
The next International Monobob Youth School and Para-Bob School is scheduled for the end of March 2017 in Sigulda (LAT). ©RWH2017
