Apolda (RWH) Olympic Champion Wolfgang Hoppe celebrates his 60th birthday on November 14. The former bobsleigh pilot, who works as coach for the German federation BSD (Bob- und Schlittenverband für Deutschland), won Olympic gold in both 2-Man and 4-Man Bobsleigh at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, as well as four more Olympic medals (1988 silver in 2-Man and 4-Man Bobsleigh, 1992 silver in 4-Man and 1994 Bronze in 4-Man). Additionally, Wolfgang Hoppe won three World Championships titles in each 2-Man (1985, 1986 and 1989) and 4-Man Bobsleigh (1991, 1995 and 1997).
Since 1998, Wolfgang Hoppe is coach in Germany, amongst others for the women’s bobsleigh team. With him, pilot Sandra Kiriasis won Olympic gold in Torino in 2006. ©RWH2017
