Berchtesgaden (RWH) René Spies has prematurely renewed his contract as German bobsleigh head coach. As the As the German Federation Bob- und Schlittenverband für Deutschland (BSD) announced in Berchtesgaden, Spies and his coaching staff will accompany the German bobsleigh athletes on their way to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
René Spies, who himself was a bobsleigh pilot, has been head coach since April 2016. His team won the Olympic gold in all three competitions with the pilots Francesco Friedrich (2-man and 4-man bobsleigh) and Mariama Jamanka (women's bobsleigh) and also won 4-man silver with Nico Walter.
"After the successful performance of our athletes at the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, it is important for us to start the new Olympic cycle with a certain consistency," said the BSD Chairman and Sports Director Thomas Schwab. "In addition to building a strong team for Beijing in 2022 we also will focus more on youth work and bring young athletes to the top of the world.”
