Sigulda (RWH) Bobsleigh pilot Oskars Melbardis from Latvia, who won Olympic bronze in 2-man Bobsleigh at the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, will miss the 2018/2019 season due to injury. That was reported by the Latvian Bobsleigh Federation.
At the BMW IBSF World Cup, Oskars Kibermanis and rookie Ralfs Berzins, who finished fourth at the 2018 U23 Junior World Championships, will pilot the two Latvian Bobsleigh teams. The kick-off event of the post-olympic season is due to take place on December 7-9 at the Latvian icetrack in Sigulda.
Oskars Melbardis, who plans to continue his sliding career, won 2014 Olympic silver in Sochi and was 2016 World Champion in 4-man Bobsleigh. In 2015, he won the Overall BMW IBSF World Cup in both 2-man and 4-man Bobsleigh as well as the combined ranking. ©RWH2018
