Oskars Kibermanis finishes second, Christoph Hafer takes a surprise third place
Sigulda (RWH) The Olympic and World Champion has clinched his second World Cup victory of the weekend. Germany’s Francesco Friedrich won the second 2-man Bobsleigh race of the season at the BMW IBSF World Cup 2018/2019 in Sigulda (LAT).
With Martin Grothkopp as brakeman, Friedrich was 0.06 seconds ahead of the second place finisher after two runs. As in the first World Cup race, the runner-up spot went to local heroes Oskars Kibermanis/Matiss Miknis (LAT). World Cup newcomer Christoph Hafer (GER, 0.25 seconds back) secured his first podium finish in his second 2-man race in the BMW IBSF World Cup with brakeman Tobias Schneider. The European Cup winner and runner-up in the 2018 Junior World Championship finished third in Sigulda.
In the overall standings of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2018/2019, Francesco Friedrich (GER, 450) leads after two of eight races ahead of Oskars Kibermanis (LAT, 420). Four racers are tied in third place with 368 points apiece: Christoph Hafer (GER), Nico Walther (GER), Dominik Dvorak (CZE) and Maxim Andrianov (RUS).
