Oskars Kibermanis in second ahead of Nico Walther

Altenberg (RWH): The Olympic Champion Francesco Friedrich remains the man to beat in the 4-man Bobsleigh World Cup. One day after his third victory in the 2-man Bobsleigh, the Olympic Champion and World Champion secured his second win from three 4-man Bobsleigh races at the BMW IBSF World Cup in Altenberg (GER).

Racing with Candy Bauer, Martin Grothkopp and Thorsten Margis as his brake crew, Francesco Friedrich recorded the best time in both heats, giving him a 0.31-second lead over Latvia’s Oskars Kibermanis with Matiss Miknis, Arvis Vilkaste and Janis Strenga. Third place in Altenberg went to the Olympic silver medallist Nico Walther with Paul Krenz, Alexander Rödiger and Eric Franke (GER, 0.51 seconds back).

Celebrating their best 4-man Bobsleigh result in the BMW IBSF World Cup to date were the Czech team of Dominik Dvorak, Dominik Suchy, Jan Sindelar and Jakub Nosek, who finished sixth in Altenberg.

Francesco Friedrich (GER, 660 points) continues to lead the overall standings in the 2018/2019 BMW/IBSF World Cup. Nico Walther (GER, 625 points) is second overall ahead of Johannes Lochner (GER, 602). Lochner, who tied with Francesco Friedrich in Königssee in 2017 to share the World Championship title in the 4-man Bobsleigh, finished fourth in Altenberg.
