Romain Heinrich in second for his first podium finish, Olympic Champion Kripps in third

Lake Placid (RWH): The 2-man bobsleigh Olympic Champion Francesco Friedrich of Germany has continued his run of wins in the BMW IBSF World Cup with another victory in Lake Placid (USA). At the seventh of eight races in the 2018/2019 season, the World Champion and his brakeman Thorsten Margis secured a 0.28-second lead over second place. And the surprise silver medallist at the penultimate World Cup race of the season was Romain Heinrich/Dorian Hauterville of France. This marked the first ever World Cup podium finish for the European Championship bronze medallist.

Third place went to Justin Kripps of Canada (0.30 seconds back) and his brakeman Cameron Stones. At the 2018 Games in PyeongChang, Kripps and his brakeman Alex Kopacz tied with Friedrich/Margis to win Olympic gold.

In theory, overall victory in the 2018/2019 BMW IBSF World Cup is all but a given for Francesco Friedrich. With seven wins from seven World Cup races, the three-time World Champion has 1575 points and a 187-point lead. Oskars Kibermanis of Latvia, who finished fifth in Lake Placid, is second overall with 1388 points ahead of Nico Walther (GER, 1048), who finished fourth in Lake Placid.Further information, the World Cup results and the latest overall standings are available at ibsf.org. ©RWH2019
