Oberhof (RWH) Corie Mapp from Great Britain is European Para Bobsleigh Champion for the first time. At the second stop of the IBSF Para Sport World Cup 2019/2020 in Oberhof (GER), the overall World Cup winner of 2018 also significantly extended his overall lead.

Corie Mapp celebrated his second win of the season in the racing series at the first race in Oberhof. World champion Arturs Klots from Latvia finished second ahead of US athlete Guillermo Castillo, who made it onto the podium for the first time.

On the second day of racing, the Brit achieved the best time again after two runs. Since the race in Oberhof was also rated as European Championship for the starters from Europe, Corie Mapp was also the first Briton to secure the continental title. Defending European Champion Christopher Stewart from Switzerland won silver this time ahead of Arturs Klots with bronze.

In the overall standings, Corie Mapp significantly expanded his lead after four out of ten races. 885 points the World Championships runner-up has collected so far with three wins and a second place at the World Cup opening. Canada’s Lonnie Bissonnette, winner of the opening World Cup, is second overall with 803 points ahead of Arturs Klots (LAT, 762). ©RWH2019
