Laura Nolte surprises with a third-place finish on her World Cup debut

Winterberg (RWH): Stephanie Schneider (GER) has won the 2-woman bobsleigh race at the BMW IBSF World Cup in Winterberg. Racing with Kira Lipperheide as her brake athlete for the first time, the World Championship runner-up celebrated the ninth World Cup victory of her career.

In an extremely nail-biting fight for the top three spots, the two other teams from hosts Germany also delivered a strong performance at the third stop in the World Cup tour in Winterberg. The Olympic and World Champion Mariama Jamanka (GER, 0.04 seconds back) finished in second. Racing with Annika Drazek for the first time this winter, the defending World Cup title holder also celebrated her first podium finish of the season.

A new face on the German World Cup team delivered a surprise result: The Youth Olympic Champion Laura Nolte and her brake athlete Deborah Levi finished in third on her World Cup debut (0.13 seconds back). The 20-year-old pushed the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Champion Kaillie Humphries (USA, 0.44 seconds back) back into a definitive fourth place.

After winning the first two races of the season, Kaillie Humphries (USA, 642 points) managed to defend her lead in the overall standings for the 2019/2020 BMW IBSF World Cup. Stephanie Schneider (GER, 627 points) is second overall ahead of Mariama Jamanka (GER, 586).
