Local hero to start at European Championships in Sigulda on Sunday
Sigulda (RWH) Cheered by thousands of enthusiastic Latvian and international fans, Bobsleigh pilot Oskars Melbārdis (LAT) and his team mates were officially awarded with the gold and bronze medals of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. During an emotional and excellent organized ceremony held on the occasion of the final BMW IBSF World Cup weekend of the 2019/2020 season in Sigulda (LAT), Melbārdis and his team of Arvis Vilkaste, Jānis Strenga and Daumants Dreiškens were presented their 4-man bobsleigh gold medals by the IBSF President and IOC Executive Board Member Ivo Ferriani.
Additionally, Oskars Melbārdis and Daumants Dreiškens were awarded the 2-man bobsleigh bronze medals.
At the BMW IBSF World Cup finals on Sunday (February 16, from 1.30 pm local time), that also counts as European Championships 2020 Oskars Melbārdis will give his season debut in the race series. The 31-years-old had competed in IBSF Europe Cup this winter following an injury break and finished second overall in both 2-man and 4-man ranking. ©RWH2020
