Königssee (RWH) Laura Nolte in 2-woman Bobsleigh and Christoph Hafer in 2-man Bobsleigh are the new German Bobsleigh Champions. The German national federation BSD (Bob- und Schlittenverband für Deutschland) announced this in a press release.
On the artificially-iced track in Koenigssee Laura Nolte defended her title from last year with push athlete Deborah Levi. The 21-year-old pilot, who achieved one victory and three more podium places in her first World Cup season last winter, relegated Kim Kalicki/Ann-Christin Strack to second place. Kalicki/Strack had won silver at the BMW IBSF World Championships 2020. Third place at the German Championships in 2-woman Bobsleigh went to overall World Cup winner Stephanie Schneider with Leonie Fiebig ahead of Olympic Champion Mariama Jamanka with Annika Drazek
Christoph Hafer and Christian Hammers won their first title in 2-man Bobsleigh. Hans-Peter Hannighofer/Marcel Kornhardt finished second ahead of Philipp Zielasko. The 24-year-old competed with Alexander Rödiger, 2018 Olympic silver medallist in 4-man bob, as push athlete.
The German Championships count as the last qualifying race of the German team for the BMW IBSF World Cup 2020/2021. World Champion Francesco Friedrich and World Championship silver medallist Johannes Lochner, who have already been seeded, made the test runs at Königssee ahead of the field. National coach René Spies will announce the World Cup team on 13 November after the 4-man Bobsleigh race. ©RWH2020
