Ohlstadt (RWH) Wolfgang Zimmerer (GER), 2-man Bobsleigh Olympic Champion of 1972 in Sapporo (JPN), celebrates his 80th birthday on 15 November 2020.

Wolfgang Zimmerer won gold in 2-man Bobsleigh with Peter Utzschneider in Sapporo and Olympic bronze in 4-man Bobsleigh. At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck he won silver in the 2-man and bronze again in 4-man Bobsleigh.

In his athletic career Wolfgang Zimmerer also won four World Championship titles (1973 and 1974 in 2-man Bobsleigh, 1969 and 1974 in 4-man Bobsleigh) and four European Championship gold medals (1968, 1972 and 1973 in 2-man and 1973 in 4-man).

From 1976 to 1984 Zimmerer was the German national bobsleigh coach. His athlete Stefan Gaisreiter became 4-man Bobsleigh World Champion in 1979 at Königssee. ©RWH2020
