Lochner second, Kripps third with first 2-man bobsleigh podium finish of the season
St. Moritz (RWH) Bobsleigh pilot Francesco Friedrich (GER) is now the sole record holder with a total of 47 World Cup victories. At the BMW IBSF World Cup in St. Moritz (SUI), the Olympic Champion, World Champion and World Cup titleholder left all competitors behind him for the ninth time in the tenth 2-man bobsleigh race of the 2020/2021 winter.
With push athlete Alexander Schüller, Friedrich set best times both at the start (5.02 seconds) and in the track (1:05.65 minutes). After two race runs, the German bobsleigh duo was 0.45 seconds ahead of teammates Johannes Lochner/Florian Bauer (GER).
Justin Kripps (CAN), 2018 Olympic champion in 2-man bobsleigh in PyeongChang (KORtied with Friedrich, finished third at the Olympic Bobrun St. Moritz-Celerina pushed by Cameron Stones. For the Canadian it was the first 2-man bobsleigh podium in the winter 2020/2021.
Swiss local heroes Michael Vogt/Sandro Michel finished fifth in St. Moritz.
In the overall ranking of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2020/2021 Francesco Friedrich (GER, 2235 points) extended his lead slightly before the last two World Cup races of the winter. Johannes Lochner (GER, 2059), on the podium in nine of the ten World Cups and now five times second, remains hot on his teammate's heels. Overall third is Michael Vogt (SUI) with 1794 points.
