Johannes Lochner second, Benjamin Maier in third place

Königssee (RWH) Francesco Friedrich (GER) is the 2-man bobsleigh winner at the penultimate BMW IBSF World Cup of the winter 2020/2021.

At Königssee (GER), the Olympic, World and European Champion set best times at the start and finish in both race runs. With push athlete Thorsten Margis, Friedrich was 0.20 seconds ahead of his team-mates Johannes Lochner/Eric Franke (GER) in second place.

Third place went to Benjamin Maier from Austria with Kristian Huber (0.96 seconds behind).

Brad Hall/Greg Cackett from Great Britain celebrated their best 2-man bobsleigh result so far this winter with a fifth place.

Michael Kuonen/Marco Tanner from Switzerland, who were only competing in the BMW IBSF World Cup for the second time, finished in the top ten in eighth place at Königssee.

The bobsleigh teams from Korea competed internationally for the first time this winter. Yunjong Won, overall World Cup winner in 2016, finished ninth with push athlete Youngwoo Seo.

In the overall standings for the 2020/2021 BMW IBSF World Cup, Francesco Friedrich (GER, 2460 points) has a 191-point lead over second-placed Johannes Lochner (GER, 2269) ahead of the final in Innsbruck (30 January). Lochner, who has been on the podium in ten of the eleven World Cups and has now finished second six times, now only has a mathematical chance of winning the overall title: 26th place in the final would be enough for Friedrich to win his fourth overall 2-man bobsleigh title. The Swiss bobsleigh pilot Michael Vogt is third overall with 1794 points.
