Benjamin Maier second at Koenigssee ahead of Johannes Lochner
Königssee (RWH) Francesco Friedrich (GER) remains unbeaten in 4-man bobsleigh at the BMW IBSF World Cup 2020/2021. At the third of the four races of the season in the large sled, Friedrich at Königssee (GER) celebrated his 50th victory in total in the BMW IBSF World Cup.
With Thorsten Margis, Martin Grothkopp and Alexander Schueller, the Friedrich team set two best times at the start and in the track. In the end, they were 0.39 seconds ahead of the second place.
This went to the runner-up in the European Championships Benjamin Maier (AUT) with Danut Moldovan, Markus Sammer and Sascha Stepan for the second time this winter. Benjamin Maier thus stood on the podium in all three season's World Cups.
Johannes Lochner (GER), 4-man bobsleigh World Champion of 2017, came in third with Florian Bauer, Christopher Weber and Christian Rasp at Königssee. For Lochner, 2018 overall World Cup winner in 4-man bobsleigh, it was the first podium finish in the 2020/2021 season.
Christoph Hafer (GER) with Kevin Korona, Christian Hammers and Philipp Wobeto, surprisingly in second place after the first run, missed the first 4-man bobsleigh podium by three hundredths of a second in the end and finished fourth.
Brad Hall (GBR) finished seventh in his first 4-man bobsleigh start of the season with Taylor Lawrence, Bruce Tasker and Greg Cackett. The bobsleigh pilot from Great Britain only achieved a better placing in 4-man bobsleigh in November 2017 in Park City (USA) in third place.
In the overall standings for the 2020/2021 BMW IBSF World Cup, Francesco Friedrich (GER, 675 points) leads ahead of Benjamin Maier (AUT, 620) before the fourth and final race of the season. Overall third is Justin Kripps (CAN, 594), who missed the podium for the first time this winter at Königssee and finished fifth with Ryan Sommer, Cameron Stones and Ben Coakwell.
