First podium finish for Gaitiukevich, Dominik Dvorak third overall in World Cup

Innsbruck (RWH) After his victory at the final in Innsbruck (AUT), the eleventh in twelve races in the winter 2020/2021, bobsleigh pilot Francesco Friedrich (GER) is the overall World Cup winner in the 2-man bobsleigh classification for the fourth time.

With push athlete Alexander Schüller, Friedrich put 0.72 seconds between himself and Latvian duo Oskars Kibermanis/Matiss Miknis in second place on the Innsbruck ice track. Kibermanis, the 2020 European Champion, has thus been on the podium in six of the twelve races this season.

There was a premiere in Innsbruck in third place: Junior European Champion Rostislav Gaitiukevich from Russia made the World Cup podium for the first time with Mikhail Mordasov. Gaitiukevich/Mordasov were 0.82 seconds behind the winner Friedrich.

Fourth place went to Dominik Dvorak/Jakub Nosek (CZE) in Innsbruck. The Czechs missed their first podium finish in the World Cup by 0.08 seconds, but moved up to a place among the top three of the World Cup season for the first time.

The 2020/2021 Overall World Cup Champion is Olympic, World and European Champion Francesco Friedrich (GER, 2685 points) ahead of teammate Johannes Lochner (GER, 2453). Lochner finished fifth in the final with push athlete Benedikt Hertel. Dominik Dvorak (CZE, 1880 points) finished third overall.
