Innsbruck (RWH) Werner Delle Karth from Austria, internationally successful bobsleigh pilot in the 1970s, celebrates his 80th birthday on 18 May.
4-man bobsleigh specialist Werner Delle Karth is a two-time Olympian. In 1976 in Innsbruck (AUT) he said the Olympic oath at the opening ceremony and later came sixth in the big sled in front of his home crowd. His greatest successes as a bobsleigh pilot included two World Championship medals: Silver in 1973 in Lake Placid and bronze in 1974 in St. Moritz. In 1972 Werner Delle Karth won 4-man bobsleigh bronze at the European Championships in St. Moritz.
Following his career as an athlete, the Austrian workes as coach, among others in Canada and his home country. As a coach in Austria, today's jubilarian celebrated 1992 Olympic gold in the 4-man bobsleigh with his pilot Ingo Appelt in Albertville (FRA). Werner Delle Karth was Secretary General of the Austrian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation ÖBSV until 2010. ©RWH2021
