Berchtesgaden (RWH) The Olympic season is over for bobsleigh pilot Hans-Peter Hannighofer (GER) before it has begun. The 23-year-old 2021 Junior World Champion and World Championships bronze medalist in 2-man bobsleigh, suffered a serious injury during the first central performance test of the German team in Oberhof, as reported by the German federation (Bob- und Schlittenverband für Deutschland , BSD). According to the report, he tore the flexor tendon in his knee during the push test. He will have to undergo surgery and to take a break for several months.

Hans-Peter Hannighofer, the newly crowned Junior World Champion, won the bronze medal in the 2-man event at his first BMW IBSF World Championships in Altenberg in February. In his four starts in the BMW IBSF World Cup so far in the winter of 2020/2021 he just missed the podium twice as fourth and finished third in Innsbruck.
