Altenberg (RWH) Bobsleigh Olympic Champion Francesco Friedrich (GER) continued his winning streak in the 2-man bobsleigh also in Altenberg (GER). At the third BMW IBSF World Cup 2021/2022, Friedrich with push athlete Alexander Schüller celebrated his 40th 2-man bobsleigh victory in the series.

After the first run on Friedrich's home track in Altenberg, it did not look like a victory: The record World Champion started the second run in third place. However, Friedrich/Schüller took the lead with the best time and relegated their team mates Johannes Lochner/Christopher Weber (GER, 0.24 seconds behind) to second place.

Rostislav Gaitiukevich/Mikhail Mordasov (RUS, 0.27 seconds back) finished third in Altenberg. The 2020 Junior European Champions thus celebrated a second podium after third place in January 2021 in Innsbruck. Rostislav Gautiukevich was also third at the Olympic test in October in the Yanqing Sliding Center (CHN).

Chris Spring from Canada celebrated his best result in four years in Altenberg with push athlete Mike Evelyn in fourth place. The last time Spring was better was in December 2017 as World Cup runner-up in Winterberg (GER).

In the overall ranking of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2021/2022, Francesco Friedrich (GER, 675 points) continues to lead ahead of Johannes Lochner (GER, 630) and Rostislav Gaitiukevich (RUS, 568).
