European Champion Nolte defends overall lead with second place, de Bruin in third
Altenberg (RWH) World Champion Kaillie Humphries (USA) celebrated her first 2-woman bobsleigh victory of the 2021/2022 Olympic season at the BMW IBSF World Cup in Altenberg (GER).
On her declared favourite track, where she became World Champion in the 2-woman bobsleigh in 2020 and in the 2-woman and monobob in 2021, the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Champion with push athlete Kaysha Love narrowly beat World Cup leader Laura Nolte with Deborah Levi (GER, 0.04 seconds back) to second place. After the first race run in Altenberg, European Champion Nolte was still in the lead, also by a narrow margin of 0.02 seconds.
Third place went to Christine de Bruin/Kristen Bujnowski (CAN, 0.35 seconds back), as in the first two races this winter.
Kim Kalicki (GER), World Championships silver medallist in 2020 and 2021 and World Cup runner-up in the first two races of the season in Innsbruck, finished fourth in Altenberg with Ann-Christin Strack.
Huai Mingming/Wang Xuan and Ying Qing/Du Jiani from the team of Olympic host China finished tied for eighth place in Altenberg.
In the overall standings of the BMW IBSF World Cup, Junior World Champion Laura Nolte (GER, 660 points) defended her lead in the 2-woman bobsleigh ahead of Kim Kalicki (GER, 612) and Christine de Bruin (CAN, 600).
