Olympic Champion Jamanka second in Winterberg, Kim Kalicki finished third
Winterberg (RWH) 2-woman Bobsleigh European Champion Laura Nolte (GER) celebrated her third victory of the season at the fourth BMW IBSF World Cup in winter 2021/2022. On her home track in Winterberg and for the first time in one and a half seasons with fans and friends on site, Nolte with push athlete Deborah Levi was 0.07 seconds ahead of Olympic Champion Mariama Jamanka with Alexandra Burghardt (GER). For Jamanka, the 2019 World Champion, it was the first podium finish of the Olympic season.
The podium was completed in Winterberg by the third German duo with World Championships silver medallist Kim Kalicki and push athlete Leonie Fiebig (0.36 seconds back). Kalicki has thus been on the podium in three of the four World Cups.
Canada's Christine de Bruin/Kristen Bujnowski, who had previously finished third in all three BMW IBSF World Cups in the Olympic season, narrowly missed the podium in Winterberg, finishing fourth ahead of World Champion Kaillie Humphries (USA) with Sylvia Hoffman.
Breeana Walker (AUS) celebrated her best result ever in 2-woman Bobsleigh, finishing seventh with Kiara Reddingius. Previously, the Australian's best result in the BMW IBSF World Cup was eighth place in December 2020 in Innsbruck. In the second race run in Winterberg, the duo Walker/Reddingius, eleventh in the first run, achieved the fourth-best run time.
In the overall standings of the BMW IBSF World Cup, Junior World Champion Laura Nolte (GER, 885 points) extended her lead in the 2-woman Bobsleigh ranking ahead of Kim Kalicki (GER, 812) and Christine de Bruin (CAN, 792).
