Sigulda (RWH) Stephanie Schneider in the 2-woman and Richard Oelsner (GER) in the 2-man bob and Korean Yooran Kim in the Women's Monobob World Series won the races at the IBSF Europe Cup 2021/2022 in Sigulda (LAT).
Schneider won the 2-woman bobsleigh race ahead of team-mate Anne Spreeuwers and Yooran Kim and leads the overall standings after six of the eight races in the series this season. Alena Osipenko from Russia and Olympic Champion Lisa Buckwitz are currently in second and third place in the Europe Cup ranking.
In the 2-man bobsleigh, two races were held in Sigulda, both victories went to Richard Oelsner, both ahead of local hero Emils Cipulis from Latvia. Third place in the first race went to Russia's Alxey Stulnev, in the second Europe Cup Jonas Jannusch (GER) was on the podium in third place. In the overall ranking, Oelsner leads ahead of the two Swiss sleds of Michael Kuonen and Cedric Follador.
In the women's monobob Yooran Kim (KOR) won ahead of Viktoria Cernanska (SVK), the silver medallist of the 2020 Lausanne Youth Olympic Winter Games. Youth Olympic Champion Georgeta Popescu from Romania came third.
All races in the 2021/2022 Olympic winter in women's monobob are part of the World Series, which is held across all IBSF race series - Europe Cup, North American Cup and BMW IBSF World Cup. The second discipline for female bobsleigh athletes will become Olympic for the first time in Beijing 2022. ©RWH2021
