Johannes Lochner finishes second ahead of Justin Kripps from Canada
Winterberg (RWH) Olympic and World Champion Francesco Friedrich (GER) won the seventh 2-man bobsleigh race of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2021/2022 in Winterberg (GER). The defending World Cup champion has thus remained unbeaten six times in the Olympic winter so far. In Winterberg, Friedrich and push athlete Alexander Schueller improved their own six-year-old track record by more than a tenth of a second to 54.89 seconds.
Johannes Locher/Florian Bauer (GER, 0.33 seconds back), who were the first duo to stay under 55 seconds in the first race run and thus broke the old track record, finished second in Winterberg for the fourth time this winter behind team mate Friedrich.
Third in Winterberg was Olympic champion Justin Kripps of Canada with Cam Stones (0.85 seconds back).
Frank Delduca (USA), overall winner of the 2021/2022 IBSF North American Cup, finished 15th in his World Cup debut as a pilot with pusher Hakeem Abdul-Saboor.
In the overall standings for the BMW IBSF World Cup 2021/2022, Francesco Friedrich (GER, 1478 points) is on his way to his fifth overall victory before the final in St. Moritz on 15 January. Rostislav Gaitiukevich (RUS, 1329), fourth in Winterberg, remains the closest pursuer as overall second. The Junior European Champion of 2020 is the only pilot who could beat Friedrich in the Olympic winter so far. Justin Kripps (CAN, 1320) is close behind in third place.
