Jamanka wins European Championship silver, bronze for Nolte
St. Moritz (RWH) Kim Kalicki (GER) is the 2022 2-woman bobsleigh European Champion, the overall victory in the 2021/2022 BMW IBSF World Cup goes to US pilot Elana Meyers Taylor.
At the BMW IBSF World Cup final in St. Moritz (SUI), Kalicki, the 2020 and 2021 World Championship silver medallist, celebrated her second victory of the season. As the race also counted as a continental championship for the athletes from Europe, Kalicki with Olympic Champion Lisa Buckwitz as push athlete also secured their first European Championship title.
World Cup runners-up were Mariama Jamanka/Kira Lipperheide (GER, 0.04 seconds back). Jamanka, European Champion in 2017 and 2019, secured European Championship silver this time. The day before, Olympic Champion Jamanka had written sports history as the first European Champion in women's monobob.
The bronze medal went to the defending champions with World Cup rank three: Laura Nolte/Deborah Levi (GER, 0.07 seconds back), had won European Championship gold in 2021.
World Champion Kaillie Humphries (USA), who had started into the second race run as the leader with push athlete Sylvia Hofman, missed the World Cup podium by 0.02 seconds and finished fourth.
The victory in the overall ranking of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2021/2022 went to US pilot Elana Meyers Taylor (1505 points), who finished fifth in St. Moritz pushed by Kaysha Love. It is the second overall World Cup victory for Meyers Taylor after the 2014/2015 season. Laura Nolte (GER, 1486) finished second in the Olympic Winter‘s World Cup, just ahead of team mate and European Champion Kim Kalicki (GER, 1472).
