U23 titles to Viktória Čerňanská and Laurin Zern
Innsbruck (RWH) Bobsleigh pilots Maureen Zimmer and Maximilian Illmann (both GER) are the 2022 Junior World Champions. The races in the women's monobob and 2-man bobsleigh were on the programme on the Olympic ice canal in Igls above Innsbruck (AUT) on the second day of competition.
Maureen Zimmer, in her first ever monobob race, relegated Lubov Chernykh (RUS) to silver and won the firt ever Junior World Championships title in the discipline. Bronze at the Junior World Championships went to Viktória Čerňanská from Slovakia. The 19-year-old, runner-up at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games, also celebrated gold in the U23 classification of the Junior World Championships. U23 silver went to Youth Olympic Champion Georgeta Popescu (ROU) ahead of Poland's Julia Slupecka.
Maximilian Illmann (GER) won his first Junior World Championship title in Innsbruck in the 2-man bobsleigh with push athlete Lukas Koller ahead of the Swiss duo Timo Rohner/Luca Rolli and Jonas Jannusch/Benedikt Hertel (GER). The 2022 U23 World Champions in the 2-man bobsleigh also come from the German team: Laurin Zern/Rupert Schenk took gold ahead of Stepan Dubinko/Aleksei Kislitsa (RUS) with silver. The host team from Austria celebrated U23 bronze for Jakob Mandlbauer/ Daiyehan Nichols-Bardi. ©RWH2022
