Innsbruck (RWH) Parabob World Champion Jonas Frei of Switzerland heads into the final two races of the 2021-2022 IBSF Parasport World Cup as the overall leader. After three consecutive victories in season races number four, five and six at the Olympic Icetrack Igls (AUT), the 24-year-old moved to the top of the overall standings with 1253 points. Robert Balk (USA, 1196) is now second overall ahead of Britain's Corie Mapp (1148).
The first Innsbruck World Cup, replacement for the race cancelled in Park City (USA) in December 2021, was won by Jonas Frei from Switzerland ahead of Corie Mapp and Israel Blanco (ESP). While in this race only those pilots were allowed to start who had already signed in for Park City, in the other Innsbruck World Cups 18 athletes were on the start list, including three women. Italian Giulia Ruffato and Viesturs Masteiko from Latvia took part for the first time. In the second race, Robert Balk (USA) and Italy's Fabrizio Caselli finished on the podium behind winner Frei, while in the third Innsbruck World Cup Flavio Menardi (ITA) celebrated his first podium finish in second place ahead of teammate Caselli.
The IBSF Parasport World Cup will come to an end on February 17 and 18, 2022 in St. Moritz (SUI). The season finale at the Olympic Bobrun St. Moritz Celerina will additionally be counted as the European Championships for the European athletes. The season highlight for the IBSF para-athletes will then be the 2022 World Championships in Lillehammer (NOR, February 26-27, 2022). ©RWH2022
