Schönau am Königssee (RWH) Christoph Langen, one of Germany's most successful bobsleigh athletes, celebrates his 60th birthday on 27 March 2022. The 1998 Olympic Champion in the 4-man bobsleigh and gold medallist in the 2-man bobsleigh at the 2002 Winter Games now works for the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) as head of the Materials, Technology and Innovation Department. Langen, who lives in Schönau am Königssee, won a total of eight World Championship titles in his career.
Born in Cologne, he started as a track and field athlete in Altötting, Germany, and became brakeman for Germany’s pilots Anton Fischer and Christian Schebitz. He won his first World Championship title in 1991 as a pusher in Wolfgang Hoppe's 4-man bobsleigh in Altenberg. From 2010 to 2016, Langen was the national coach of the German federation.
