Humphries celebrates 30th 2-woman bob victory at BMW IBSF World Cup in Altenberg
Altenberg (RWH) 2-woman bobsleigh Olympic Champion Laura Nolte is the 2023 European Champion. At the BMW IBSF World Cup in Altenberg (GER), at the same time counted as European Championships for the European athletes, Nolte won the title in 2-woman bobsleigh with push athlete Neele Schuten. Silver went to Melanie Hasler/Nadja Pasternack (SUI). For the Swiss it was the first European Championship medal just before the start of the BMW IBSF World Championships on their home track in St. Moritz (SUI). Bronze was won by defending champion Kim Kalicki with Anabel Galander (GER).
The victory in the World Cup ranking of the race in Altenberg went to World Champion Kaillie Humphries from the USA with Kaysha Love. The 2010 and 2014 Olympic Champion celebrated her 30th victory in the race series. Nolte/Schuten (GER, 0.02 seconds back) finished razor-thin behind, ahead of Hasler/Pasternack (SUI, 0.57 seconds back).
Youth Olympic Champion Georgeta Popescu (ROU) celebrated the first top ten rank in 2-woman bobsleigh World Cup with Antonia Sarbu in tenth place. Victoria Cernanska (SLO), runner-up at the 2020 Youth Winter Games, also finished in the top ten for the first time in ninth place.
In the overall ranking of the BMW IBSF World Cup 2022/2023 it is very tight after the sixth of the eight races: Only ten points are between first and third place. Kim Kalicki (GER, 1252) leads ahead of Laura Nolte (GER, 1247) and Kaillie Humphries (USA, 1242).
