Silver for Olympic Champion Friedrich, Michael Vogt wins bronze
Altenberg (RWH) Historic European Championship gold for Great Britain: Bobsleigh pilot Brad Hall and his push athletes crew Arran Gulliver, Taylor Lawrence and Greg Cackett became the first British bobsleigh team in the history of the sport to win the European Championship.
At the BMW IBSF World Cup in Altenberg (GER), for the European teams also counted as continental championships, the Brits relegated the 4-man bobsleigh team of Olympic and World Champion Francesco Friedrich (GER, 0.09 seconds back) with Thorsten Margis, Candy Bauer and Felix Straub to second place.
World Cup rank three and European Championship bronze went to Michael Vogt (SUI, 0.22 seconds back) with Cyril Bieri, Alain Knuser and Sandro Michel. For Michael Vogt it was the first podium place and the first ever European Championship medal. The last Swiss team to win a European Championships medal was in 2014, when Beat Hefti and his crew claimed gold.
In the overall standings for the 2022/2023 BMW IBSF World Cup, Brad Hall (GBR) and Francesco Friedrich (GER) are leading with 1287 points each after six of the eight races. Third overall with 1170 points is Johannes Lochner (GER), who finished fourth in Altenberg.
