Oberarth (RWH) Bobsleigh Olympic Champion Erich Schärer is the first ambassador for Swiss bobsleigh. As Swiss Sliding reported in a press release, the 77-year-old was appointed during the delegates' meeting of the national federation. Erich Schärer is the most successful Swiss bobsleigh pilot, having won Olympic gold in the 2-man bob in 1980 and seven World Championship titles between 1971 and 1986. He won a total of four Olympic medals and 14 at World Championships.
